Practice areas

Foresight, strategy, and innovation are our core competencies—a scope of expertise unique in the futures field. Instead of focusing on just one of these areas to help organizations plan for the future, our staff of futurists, researchers, analysts, cultural anthropologists, ethnographers, brand experts, writers, and designers bring a client-centered view to every project we undertake.

Foresight

Foresight is the art and science of identifying and preparing for the different futures that could occur. When your organization makes decisions from a position of foresight, strategic planning is stronger, risks are identified sooner, and new opportunities can be glimpsed before others see them. Foresight is the basis of all of our services at Social Technologies—but we are also experts at helping organizations efficiently integrate foresight into their own practices so they can make better decisions for tomorrow, today. Strategy

Business-as-usual can be a fatal strategy in today’s turbulent markets. In the 21st century, strategic planning needs to prepare your organization for the many possible futures that could unfold. Social Technologies’ approach is to ground the future in strategic conversations—continuous, dynamic discussions embedded in daily worklife. We use multiple tools and methods to help you launch and institutionalize a strategic conversation that will promote buy-in throughout the organization, prepare you for unexpected events, and keep you on track toward the future you want. Innovation

At Social Technologies, we work with leaders to identify the problems and opportunities consumers and customers will face in the future. Then we use that understanding to help you come up with exciting new ideas and opportunities before your competitors do. Our in-house expertise includes creating innovation processes for global corporations, ideating new product and service platforms, and generating specific offerings with long-term market appeal. Resources

Among the growing list of resources published by Social Technologies is our 2007 book, Thinking about the Future: Guidelines for Strategic Foresight, by our own Andy Hines, Director of Consulting.
